2014 Favourites: The Base

As we’re saying goodbye to 2014 and welcoming in the new year of 2015, it comes that time where I look back on everything I’ve been using and loving throughout the past year. I’m talking all things beauty, but that’s what we all want though right?

First up, I’m talking the bases of all bases: primers, foundations, concealers and powders. You can probably guess what would be featured here, and that’s not just because of the overtly obvious picture above showing you what is, but because I’ve gone on about all of these products SO much this year and I can imagine this will carry on into the depths of 2015, although I will try to lessen it a little for all of our sakes.

I haven’t always been a foundation lover, and actually, I reckon it was probably this year I REALLY got into wearing it. I used to wear a BB Cream but then after hearing endless amounts about this NARS Sheer Glow dupe (both of which I had wanted to try for so long but just couldn’t justify it as I never liked the finish of a foundation on me), the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation was purchased along with a number of others, but this was the one that really stood out to me… and stuck. The finish was beautiful, the shade was just about right and better than anything it was light enough for my super pale skin.

The love of foundation began here and only got worse after I got my hands on the mother of all foundations, the one I got the dupe for, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation* of course. Torn between a few shades when getting shade matched, I opted for the lightest shade as when have I ever not been? And then the love began… Matching that with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer* is just a match made in heaven taking over for my love of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer that I’d been in love with before. I do still really rate this though as an amazing budget concealer! Perfect if you’re looking to add a new concealer into your collection without breaking the bank and a great one if you’re just getting into makeup.

It was only when I finally got my hands on the full size version of the Illamasqua Hydra Veil Primer* though that my base lovin’ finally came together. I’d been using minis of this and scraping out the last little bits, but for some reason put off buying it even though I loved it that much. After popping a bit of this on, your skin feels so hydrated and the foundation applies like I’ve never seen it apply before. Perfect for my dry/dehydrated skin. I’m in love. A swipe of my ever loved The Body ShopAll-In-One Face Base and I’m sorted. A base that looks amazing and lasts, that’s what we’re all after right?

What’s been the base combo you’ve been loving throughout 2014?
